Few virtual security options available despite industry interest.
Burlington, MA - June 19, 2008 - Astaro Corporation (www.astaro.com), a leading vendor of security solutions, today announced that survey results from the Interop Las Vegas conference (April 28-May 2) indicate that 55 percent of the 350 participants plan to virtualize at least part of their network security in 2008. Despite demand for virtualized networks, the company’s Astaro Security Gateway appliance line is one of the few available as fully virtualized appliances. Astaro’s newest product line, Astaro Web Gateway, is also available as a virtual appliance.
Gartner Research states, “Virtualization is the highest-impact issue changing infrastructure and operations through 2012. It will change how you manage, how and what you buy, how you deploy, how you plan and how you charge.”
While there are few vendors that offer virtualized security, Astaro Corporation has been a certified virtual appliance partner of VMware for the past five years. The company’s security products can therefore be run from VMWare in a production environment in order to take advantage of existing hardware and allow companies that are standardizing on virtualization to utilize Astaro to meet their security needs. Astaro solutions can also be virtualized to provide easily recoverable training and demonstration platforms and conduct non-invasive evaluations of features and solutions.
Astaro CEO Jan Hichert adds, “Virtualization is a hot trend right now that can provide significant benefits, provided that administrators take proper precautions in setting up their virtual networks. As with any new technology, virtualization will likely face new security threats that must be mitigated.”
Server virtualization boasts the benefits of reduced costs, improved availability and faster deployment. To download a trial version of Astaro Security Gateway, visit http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/110.
