Astaro to Offer Free Home User License.
LAS VEGAS (Interop Conference) May 21, 2007 – Astaro Corporation (www.astaro.com), a leader in delivering unified threat management (UTM) security appliances, today announced that it will offer to noncommercial users a free home user license of its award-winning Astaro Security Gateway software. Valued at $1430, the consumer license includes basic perimeter security services such as a personal firewall, email encryption and intrusion protection, which detects and stops hostile probes and application-based automated attacks.
Additionally, the free license includes Astaro’s Email Filtering, a popular service that includes anti-virus, spam blocking and protection against phishing. It also includes Astaro’s Web Filter services, which include anti-virus, content filtering against blacklisted or inappropriate websites, and protection against spyware.
Also included in this edition is Astaro’s Email Encryption and decryption services.Astaro’s centralized email encryption strategy offers complete transparency to end users with the added benefit that no additional encryption software is required on the client side.
“Although Astaro donates a percentage of its profits to supporting several security-related open source projects, we want to offer enterprise-class Internet and email security to everyday home users so they too can be protected,” said Jan Hichert, Astaro CEO.

In March Astaro announced an initiative to recruit Novell Resellers to partner with Astaro by offering a free copy of an Astaro Security Gateway UTM appliance to Novell Resellers who become certified by Astaro. Astaro supports a reseller/VAR network of 1,015 partners worldwide, of which 450 are U.S. based.
