City of Airdrie Gains Insight into network with Astaro’s Web Security

Astaro web security provides real-time reporting at 75% the cost of old product

2010/02/16

Wilmington, MA – Astaro Corporation (http://www.astaro.com), a leading network security vendor, today announced that the City of Airdrie in Alberta Canada reduced their reporting costs by more than 75% while increasing their visibility into network activities and improving security using Astaro’s web security.

The City of Airdrie selected Astaro’s web security after collaborating with technology expert Divestco to determine which appliance would provide the best-fit for real-time Internet usage reports and network security virus protection capabilities. Paul Hurst, Network Administrator for the City of Airdrie also selected Astaro web security because the product would allow him to align Internet access with the city’s existing Internet usage policies.

The real-time reports provided by Astaro’s web security gave Hurst access to real-time web usage information and insight into the number of Trojans and other malicious programs that attempted to infect the city’s network.

Hurst explained, “Using the old reporting software we were not seeing a return on investment that would justify continued use of the product, however having insight into how city employees were using the Internet was a crucial part of keeping our network secure. With Astaro’s web security we are saving more than 75% of the cost of the old software over the course of  five years; so we are saving money and we have better insight into what is going on in our network.”

Astaro’s web security also prevented virus, spyware and other malware from infecting the internal work stations at the City of Airdrie. Hurst was also able to use the content filtering capabilities to control web access by blocking access to sites with questionable content and sites that are deemed unsafe.

Astaro web security provides complete protection and control over data transferred over the web. The All-In-One web security appliance features Malware Detection, Application Control, URL Filtering and Bandwidth Management, fully integrated and manageable through a single and intuitive browser-based user interface.

“In most cases keeping a network secure requires more than content filtering or anti-virus tools; it requires monitoring the network and understanding how the Internet is used at an organization. Reports that provide information about past Internet usage can be helpful, but they do not allow administrators to solve issues as they occur,” said David Rogers, Vice President Americas, Astaro Corporation. “The Astaro web security provides real-time reports so administrators can see what is going on in the network at that moment and react appropriately, often times finding issues before they cause a problem.”
