Astaro Releases Version 2.1 of Free Astaro Command Center

Central management tool allows partners to provide managed security services.

2010/01/14

READING, UK - 14th January 2010 – Astaro Corporation (http://www.astaro.com), a leading network security vendor, today announced the release of version 2.1 of the Astaro Command Center, a free platform for the central management of multiple Astaro installations. With updated and new functionality, the latest Astaro Command Center is aimed at enterprises with multiple Astaro appliances installed, so that they can easily manage their network security infrastructure. The new version of the Astaro Command Center also enables Astaro partners to offer managed security services.

Version 2.1 of the Astaro Command Center adds new areas of functionality, including the ability to share global definitions across multiple organisations. This new capability saves time for providers of managed security services as they can push configurations of objects to multiple locations simultaneously.

The new features in the Astaro Command Center version 2.1 include:

  • Global Definitions Capability - Allows the central management and roll-out of network and service definitions, and automatic re-synchronisation of deployed definitions when updated. Existing local definitions can be merged with their new central counterparts, while "shared" global definitions on devices can be distributed to separate organisations.
  • Organisational Unit Structuring - Improves overview, scalability and handling of security management, and increases multi-client capabilities by allowing separation and encapsulation of devices and objects.
  • Device-based Reporting - Offers at-a-glance daily graphical reporting of hardware, network and security status, as well as weekly, monthly or yearly historical reporting. Users can compare and sort reports and graphs for each device centrally
  • Aggregated Reporting - Generate reports of combined data from any number of devices. Users can drill-down to get precise details on devices across their Astaro estates, as well as getting sorting and comparison features. Aggregated reports cover Accounting, Network Security, Web Security and Mail Security

The Astaro Command Center is available for free to all partners who wish to provide managed security services, or for end-users that have multiple Astaro installations across several locations. The free central management product is available as software and as a virtual appliance. Organisations that wish to install the Astaro Command Center on an Astaro hardware appliance are charged a small fee for the cost and maintenance of the hardware.

“With the Astaro Command Center, organisations can easily manage their own security configuration from a single location,” said Jan Hichert, CEO at Astaro. “We developed the Astaro Command Center to assist end-users with large installations, and as a tool to help our partners offer additional value to their customers. The new and updated features in version 2.1 make it easier for our partners to offer managed security services, giving them a tool for creating additional business and adding value to any Astaro installation.”
