City of Airdrie Continues to Save With Astaro

Wilmington, MA - Astaro Corporation (http://www.astaro.com), a leading Unified Threat Management provider, today announced that the City of Airdrie in Alberta Canada added the email security application to their Astaro Security Gateway deployment. The addition of email security has reduced the amount of time employees spend managing their inboxes and deleting spam by 97%.

With the City of Airdrie’s existing anti-spam solution coming up for renewal, the city felt this was a good opportunity to expand on their success using Astaro products by adding Astaro’s email security application to their existing Astaro deployment. Before adding the email security application from Astaro, spam was costing the City of Airdrie an estimated $14,000 every two months in staff costs dealing with spam on the desktop.

Using the Astaro Security Gateway email security application, the city was able to reduce the cost of spam by 97%, and increase productivity as employees no longer had to sift through hundreds of spam messages. “When we realized our contract for our existing anti-spam solution was almost up we saw this as an opportunity to extend our success with Astaro’s web security to our email security,” said Paul Hurst Network Administrator for the City of Airdrie. “Since deploying the Astaro email security application per PureIT’s suggestion we’ve seen the amount of spam drop from more than 10% of messages to less than 1% of all messages. This dramatic decrease has saved us a tremendous amount of man hours and thus money.”

In addition to the cost and time savings associated with deploying Astaro’s email security, the City of Airdrie is also reaping the benefits of increased visibility and reporting. The city can now access detailed information for auditing purposes for inbound and outbound email messages, viruses and malware prevented as well as reports on typical email security problems that would have previously been undetected. The savings and the benefits seen by the City of Aidrie from deploying the email security application are in addition to the benefits the city saw after deploying Astaro’s web security application several months before.
