BURLINGTON, MA, March 28, 2006 - Astaro Corporation (www.astaro.com.) announced today it will preview Astaro™ Security Gateway V7 at the LinuxWorld Boston 2006 exhibition April 4-6.
Scheduled for launch at the end of the second quarter of this year, this new product will be the world’s first security appliance integrating strong encryption and digital signature mechanisms based on S/MIME and OpenPGP industry standards. This means the Astaro Security Gateway V7 solution can communicate seamlessly with other email encryption gateways as well as all other desktop-based solutions that support these popular standards.
By combining cutting edge email encryption technologies into its award-winning unified threat management appliances, built with Astaro’s innovative and proven implementation of the Linux® operating system, Astaro Security Gateway customers will realize substantial savings in administrative time and effort as well as reductions in overall costs when compared to legacy single-purpose appliances. By delivering email security, web security, and network assurance on a single management platform, Astaro technology goes beyond point solutions by integrating each application with the others. Encrypted emails, for example, are also processed through the solution’s filtering mechanisms and checked for damaging content by a centralized virus and content scanner.
Defined user groups or individual users can automatically encrypt and/or sign their emails through the central email encryption in Astaro Security Gateway before sending them. Everything is delivered in a way that is completely transparent to the user. All email received is in turn automatically decrypted, verified and forwarded. Functionality in Astaro Security Gateway automatically manages public keys, removing a burden from both the end user and the network administrator.
Already famous for its ease of use, Astaro Security Gateway V7 has been further enhanced with a new administrative user interface based on AJAX technology. By permitting direct manipulation of lists and other settings, response time and accuracy are both significantly improved, resulting in vastly improved network administrator productivity.
Other announced features for Astaro Security Gateway V7 include:
• Enhanced QoS for VoIP to give network administrators more control over the level of service delivered for this growing, business-critical traffic
• A new transparent FTP proxy that eliminates FTP client configuration while preserving the virus and content inspection capabilities of the firewall
• A new SSL VPN to allow remote and traveling users secure access to network resources
“This special preview,” said Astaro CEO Jan Hichert, “demonstrates both the practical and technological advantages our UTM leadership delivers for businesses around the world. We invented the concept of Network Assurance,” he said, “by delivering the world’s first open-source based unified threat management system. Now we’re taking that to the next logical level and doing it in ways that reflect the realities of network management at companies of all sizes.”
